Shallow Bath, in collaboration with Daniel Herr, is pleased to present The Wreckage of My Presence, Nick Naber’s first solo exhibition in Los Angeles. Opening February 6, and running through February 28, 2026, and will feature a site-specific wall drawing alongside never before seen watercolors on canvas.

The site-specific wall drawing will be executed directly in the gallery over the course of one week and reflects Naber’s ongoing fascination with the space he occupies—physically, psychologically, and materially. Rendered in indigo-colored pencil, the completed drawing exposes the skeletal framework underlying his watercolor practice.

Naber’s watercolors on canvas mark a technical and material departure from his well-known works on paper. While they speak the same visual language, these paintings expand his vocabulary and envision a more chaotic spatial field. The compositions can be read as amalgamated structures—compressed, fractured, and held together in an uneasy puzzle. Shaped plumes of watercolor simultaneously conceal and reveal areas of drawing, allowing gesture and structure to blend into a tense but harmonious coexistence.

Together, the wall drawing and paintings form an environment that considers presence as residue—what remains after movement, labor, and looking.

Nick Naber received his MFA in Painting and Drawing from Pratt Institute (2012) and his BFA from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (2010). He has had four solo exhibitions in New York, including at Trestle Gallery (2019), The Java Project (2018), and OPUS Projects (2015, 2012), and has participated in numerous group exhibitions.

His work has been reviewed by Painting Is Dead for his solo exhibition Untitled (series) at The Java Project (2018). Naber has been interviewed extensively about his practice, and his work has been published in TRUCK STOP MAGAZINE (2025), Buds Digest (2025), WowwArt (2024), Pencil Magazine (2024), Art Maze Magazine (Winter 2019), A Queer Anthology of Rage (2018), Alt/Process (2015), and GRAPHITE Journal (2012).
